60 Hz is an audiovisual performance duo by Jan Thoben and Boris Hegenbart. Rooted in DIY video synthesis techniques from the 1960s and 70s,
this project explores the signal-based creation of sound and image using a VGA synthesizer and digital audio porcessing. 60Hz refers to the vertical refresh rate in analogue video sytems.
This project explores the ideosyncrasies of signal flows, digital processes and human-machine interaction beyond the notion of command. Following unorthodox approaches in early live-electronics this project‘s interest is with matters of influences rather than control. Hardware and software constitute a frame for performative actions and co-creative dynamics.
